Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Transcriptions

Transcription may be linguistic, genetic or may even relate to music. Linguistic transcription means the transfer of a spoken conversation into written language. Genetic transcription is the process of replicating DNA to RNA by the enzyme called RNA polymerize (RNAP). Transcription of music means rewriting a piece of music or recopying it.

Transcription comprises of three types, namely corporate transcriptions, legal transcriptions, and medical transcriptions. Corporate or business transcription providing services offer accurate business transcripts that are delivered on time. They also deliver it in the format required and at fairly competitive prices. Business transcription is a very tedious job, and overburdens the staff. A service providing company simplifies the work by organizing and re-arranging the data. This not only saves time, but also saves the company's money.

Legal transcriptions are those that record depositions, court hearings, and tapes in any language preferred by the client. Many legal transcription service-providing companies also take up large and multipart translation projects that can be managed easily. Such services also help to transcript large and complex investigational projects. The wide range of expertise helps the service rendering firms to ease the problems.

Professionals with a medical background do medical transcriptions. The firms that offer medical transcribing services specialize in writing medical reports or summarize medical theories. The writers here are professionals and are well versed even with the most complicated matters related to medical terms.

There are several companies that offer transcribing services to legal, medical and corporate firms. There are many investigation companies that hire transcribers who record and interpret conversations, court hearings and write them so that further referral is possible. These written conversations are documented according to the dates, months and years so that it is convenient for the company authorities to read through them. Many online transcribing companies also offer such services.

Since transcription is a vast subject, people should be aware of their requirements before picking the right service.

Medical Transcriptionist - Are They Really In Demand?

The answer is an absolute "yes." But why is there a demand for medical transcriptionists? The answer to that question lies in social trends and the needs of those tending our aging population.

There's no doubt that most people around the world are living longer, healthier lives. That's due in part to lifestyle changes. People simply realize the benefits of eating right, getting proper exercise and paying attention to their physical and emotional needs. The other reason for the longevity can be attributed to incredible strides in the health care industry. There are more health care options than ever; making it possible for more people to afford the health care they need in order to stay healthy. At the same time, researchers are finding new drugs, new treatments and better options for those who have health problems. Diseases that were terminal only a few decades ago are now nothing more than a minor inconvenience.

The boom in the health care industry has created many new jobs, including a demand for medical transcriptionists. Think the person who transcribes the records isn't that important? Consider this scenario. A person goes to his family doctor for a nagging cough. The doctor finds something suspicious and the person is referred on to a series of specialists before finding himself in the hospital facing surgery.

The family physician at the beginning of this process knows that the patient is allergic to penicillin, but that fact may very well never come to light until the patient has been given a lethal dose of the drug - but for the work of the medical records that have accompanied this patient throughout his travels to the various doctors. Each doctor along the way gathered new information and that was all conveyed to the next doctor by way of the medical notes - which were all transcribed by a trained professional.

The time these doctors, nurses, lab technicians and other health care providers spend at their jobs is typically spent helping their patients. The days when a country doctor could make rounds and remember the ailments and particulars of all his cases are long gone. Several decades ago, someone came up with the idea of recording thoughts, treatments and all other relevant information from a patient's visit with his physician, then having that verbal information typed up - neatly, so that everyone could later read and understand. That brought about the need for these professionals that today carry a huge load for the health care industry.

The result is a demand for individuals who can accurately transcribe verbal notes. There are plenty of training opportunities and lots of technology to help you along the way, but it still takes a skilled person to listen and record exactly what's being conveyed.

There's no doubt that medical transcription isn't for everyone. There's no room for daydreaming and accuracy is a must. But there's also no doubt that this is an opportunity to be involved with the health care industry, and in a way that has definite appeal for many people. You may be one of those who would do well in this field.

A significant portion of that, about 2 million, offered professional business services, which include data entry. More and more people are taking that bold step to strike a balance between family and work. The most common solution: online data entry job.

By staying versed with all the information and keeping the records of their businesses, resort to the data entry industry to augment their labor and ensure continuation of their businesses.

The main equipment used in the online data entry job is a computer. It is a gadget which churns out words and numbers faster than you can imagine. If you have one at your home, then you are already riding the wave. However, owning one is not the key to being successful at data entry home business. You must be adept at using it. make sure proper training and practice especially on word processors and spreadsheet applications as well as audio processing software used in transcription.

Work of data entry differs from simple name and address entry into a list or database to more complex work as medical transcription. One thing is common in all of them: All can be done at home.

Data entry workers make lists of information like numbers, names, addresses and the like. The data is keyed into forms that show up on the computer screen. They are also tasked to edit existing information or spot errors in existing entries, like proofreading.

However hard work and perseverance is a prerequisite for all home jobs. If someone's idea of easy home business ideas means ideas that allow them to make money without a lot of effort, then for them there are no easy home business ideas. When we talk about easy home business ideas, the reality is that there are home business ideas that are easy to break into, to work into a home business that the owner can enjoy and make profitable, with a lot of time and hard work. The part of these home business ideas that is easy is the means for starting them. Make a living by doing the online data entry home business.

Medical Transcriptionists Are Highly Wanted!!

A reliable and dependable service in medical transcription will bring more business than you can take care of. A highly trained medical transcriptionist will retain the integrity of the document. Since the need for good Transcriptionists was obvious, the medical field is always looking for more transcriptionists. Demand for medical transcription services increases as a result of more hospital visits and medical testing of patients. Accuracy in keyboarding includes the knowlege in the use of transcribing and the growing of medical terminology. Many of the recorders come with easy controls so that you can start, stop, pause and fast forward. Transcriptionists who pass written and practical examinations can become certified.

The results are angry support calls that cost us time and energy to fix when transcription is not done correctly. Each and every diagnosis in a patient's record is required to be accurately reported. A computer can be used to immediately create an electronic document. Medical transcription is 1 of the fastest growing home-based professions in the country. A growing market exists as every day doctors in clinics, hospitals, and other medical facilities leave recorded notes that must be transcribed.

It can also raise concerns about privacy and quality of work that could ultimately impinge revenue. A highly skilled and knowledgeable medical language specialist who transcribes medical records is hard to find. This process involves listening to the recordings on a particular headset connected to dictating machine. Demand for medical services and quickly changing computer and communications technology mean the medical transcriptionist has to keep up with the industry. Transcriptionists who pass the national exam given by the American Association for Medical Transcription are certified by that group. The outsourcing debate is often overlooked in the United States and other developed countries.

Medical Transcription Registered Apprenticeship Program Launched

The Medical Transcription Industry Association (MTIA) announced today its plans to begin accepting applications for registered apprentices on January 1, 2007, following the recent completion of all necessary administrative requirements called for by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). Under this program, graduates who have passed the Registered Medical Transcription (RMT) entry-level exam developed by the American Association for Medical Transcription (AAMT) and who have attended approved medical transcription educational institutions can be hired as apprentices by participating employers. In March of this year, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) declared medical transcription to be an apprenticeable profession - the first step in establishing a national apprenticeship program.

"The MTIA Registered Apprenticeship program will deliver well-trained medical transcriptionists into the marketplace for years to come. Such quality-based, knowledge-workers are essential to patient safety and the transition toward an electronic healthcare infrastructure," stated Sean Carroll, President of MTIA. "We view this program as a necessary, major investment in the future of the industry. We are also enthusiastic about expanding the program to meet evolving workforce models of the future," said Carroll.

“Considering the grave shortage of qualified medical transcriptionists combined with workplace production pressures to meet turnaround times for clinical documentation, it’s important for MTIA and AAMT to partner on solutions for creating more “job-ready” practitioners to handle the growing documentation demands of the healthcare system,” stated Peter Preziosi, PhD, CAE, Executive Director, American Association for Medical Transcription. “The MTIA Registered Apprenticeship Program offers a structured environment for newly credentialed graduates to succeed as a new practitioner in the workplace by giving them the additional ear time and counsel which is critical to honing their interpretive medical language and critical thinking skills.”

Spantel Announces Next-Generation Medical Transcription Platform – Hospital Direct™

In meeting transcription goals of HIMS departments, transcription performance – as well as strict security and privacy compliance with HIPAA – is ultimately only as reliable as the technology platform used in creating those records. For HIM directors, whether they handle transcription in-house or through an outsourced vendor, controlling their technology platform is critical to ensuring the privacy of their PHI – and to maintaining the uniform high quality of their transcription deliverables.

Hospitals, group practices and MTSOs all need a flexible, feature-rich, technologically advanced platform that is both easy to adopt and to deploy. Addressing this need, Spantel – long an innovative market leader in ASP-based transcription platform technology – today announced a sophisticated, on-demand Web-based dictation/transcription solution, Hospital Direct™.

“Hospital Direct is the easiest to adopt, most flexible transcription platform on the market,” Spantel’s founder and CEO Janak Pandit explained. “With a user base numbering in the tens of thousands, Spantel’s Hospital Direct management system – which has superseded our Technology Subscription Program (TSP) – is based on a mature solution that has offered the market advanced thinking and technological refinements in operations management for transcription for nearly a decade.

“In nearly a decade of providing the market increasingly sophisticated transcription platforms,” Pandit said, “we have continually made a point of learning – from hospital HIM directors, group practices and MTSOs – what they need in a platform; then we’ve gone forth and solved the most pressing of their unmet needs.

“They told us, in a word, that they needed flexibility,” he pointed out.

“Flexibility to replace legacy systems that had limited features that did not evolve with changing needs, and still required in-house IT costs to remain operational.

“Flexibility to easily manage, replace or add transcription vendors to quickly and consistently meet transcription goals of quality and turnaround times.

“Flexibility to benefit from speech recognition technologies that promise improved productivity, reduced costs and increased privacy and security.

“Taking their input to heart,” Pandit explained, “we have developed the single most flexible system on the market today, Hospital Direct. This ASP-model, Web-based system is a remarkably flexible dictation, transcription and workflow management system – one that addresses all of those concerns in a manner that makes it simply the most productivity-oriented, efficient and cost-effective transcription platform available today."

In nearly a decade of meeting the needs of tens of thousands of end-users, the Spantel system has continually evolved. Its latest evolution has become, in effect, a new product – Hospital Direct. That constant evolution not only benefits new clients, attracted by new features and options, but it also benefits existing clients by enabling them to adopt additional features that their own evolving needs.

“Meeting both the current and future needs of our customers is our top priority – and, with our central deployment as an on-demand, Web-based service, meeting this priority is guaranteed,” Pandit explained. “With Hospital Direct, we meet their needs for a continually-upgraded, state-of-the-art system, all while freeing them from the heavy investment of IT time and financial resources that an on-site deployment would need. Freeing HIM directors from the costs and implementation problems inherent with software, while giving them maximum flexibility in implementation and use, were the primary reasons for evolving our product into Hospital Direct.

“An important feature involves the local deployment of the dictation server,” Pandit said, “with Web-based central access to workflow systems. This ensures in-house control of dictation while allowing our clients to benefit from enhanced operations management capabilities.”

Spantel’s greatest strength is the remarkably brief response time needed to deploy new customers, as well as to meet the changing needs of existing customers. “We make the start-up experience painless,” Pandit pointed out. “We do this by placing minimal requirements on scarce IT resource. Our intuitive system, one that flexibly adopts existing keypad controls, facilitates a seamless transition for doctors and other users.

“In this way, Spantel’s Hospital Direct virtually guarantees trouble-free performance,” Pandit concluded. “In designing Hospital Direct, we have engineered into our system the features and attributes most in demand by health information and MTSO management teams. These include lightning-quick deployment; ease of use; unparalleled, feature-rich workflow control; real-time accountability and transparency; and built-in cost savings.”

Significant features in Spantel’s new Hospital Direct include:

* Dictate using toll-free, handheld and PACS-integrated dictation software
* Reports that measure productivity, utilization, costs and deliverables performance
* Documentation completion tools – online editing, e-signs, export, print
* Security with role-based access control, logs, encryption and time-outs
* HL-7 interfaces to any system, remote printing and fax distribution
* Speech recognition that supports the delivery of CDA document format

Hospital Direct is a complete system; however, to further enhance flexibility, Spantel will soon be announcing two new optional features – a “Team Module” that will enhance managers’ ability to monitor workflow and control jobs over a broad range of MT vendors and in-house transcriptionists; and an incredibly sophisticated automated speech recognition system that will not only significantly increase productivity, but offers further flexibility in format, such as enabling HL-7 CDA documents.

About Spantel LLC

Spantel is a provider of dictation/ transcription management solution and services that is speech-recognition enabled. Partnering with our MTSO customers, Spantel provides the quickest and absolutely painless deployment and use experience that improves transcription performance, meets changing needs of HIMS, and brings the latest in technology to reduce costs. Work At Home:How To Avoid The Most Common Home Business Scams

While I must confess I don't know you, I assume that you are interested in home busies because you have seen a newspaper ad telling you of a very lucrative home business opportunity (I come across such ads every day), or maybe a friend told you about it. So probably you are a lot excited to start your own home business. Because finally, you can quit your 9-to-5 regular job and concentrate on something creative!

However, not everything is as rosy as it seems when it comes to home business. If you are planning to start your home business based on someone else's rules, you must be careful. Almost 99% of the offers out there are scams. Just think about it: if it was possible to earn thousands by investing just a few dollars, wouldn't everyone be doing it by now? Below I tell you of some of the industry's biggest scams, and how to avoid them.

1. Source of the advertisement: First, jog your memory a little. Can you remember where you got that work from home offer? Based on my experiences, I can say that: if you received that ad by email, or by post, then most likely it is not a legitimate offer, although there maybe exceptions. If you saw the ad in a popular newspaper then it is likely that the offer is legitimate, though not always. My advice is that always thoroughly check out any and every offer you receive and assume it a scam until you have solid proof to the contrary.

2. Stuff that envelop: Under this scam, you are sent a bunch of envelopes and ads similar to the one you responded to. You are supposed to earn some money when somebody responds to your ads. While this might make you some money in the short term, be assured that there is no established niche for this type of work and so you won't be making any money in the long term. Just get over it and find another job!

3. Charge for supplies: Under this scheme (read scam), the company asks you to pay a small charge in order for them to send you a certain 'home business kit'. What you eventually find is that the materials you receive are not worth the time or money, and that there is just no established market for that kind of business. Bottom line, if any company asks for money from you upfront, just run away from it. A well established company should b willing to deduct any fees from your first paycheck; if they don't do that, chances are that they're never going to pay you anything.

4. Craft and lose it: Let's say that a crafts company hires you to make clothes, toys, ornaments, and other types of crafts from home. When you finally submit the output to the company, they say that your products are not up to the mark and then refuse to pay you. Then they sell the products at a huge profit and then move on to trap the next gullible person.

Always make sure that you are the one who sell the products when it comes to crafts. You don't need to sell your products to the end-users (consumers); you can sell them even to wholesalers. Just make sure that you are the one deciding what you make and getting the money.

5.Home typing, Medical Billing, etc: I know this one much more better since I was also one of those who are lured into this scam but fortunately I fled from them before they could scam me! One example of such scam is the job of medical transcriptionist. You are told that there is too much work in this industry to handle and so the industry has outsourced the work. All you have to do is just type medical bills into an electronic database from home. And they assure you that you will get paid handsomely for it. All you need is just a computer (I was told that I don't even need a PC; I can work from their office) and buy a 'special software' which will teach you the skills needed for the job. You might notice that the software is from a different company altogether, but the truth is that the purpose of the ad in the first place was to market the software.

Granted that you get paid good money from your job, but when you are working from home for another company, you don't make as much money as you can do from your own home business. So there is no need to bother with them at all, at least, in my opinion.

Why Marketing Is Important for Your Home-Based Business

More than most other online businesses, a home based Internet marketing business requires experience and training. Many people experience failure in internet marketing because they are not trained to market their business. In the marketing world, the best marketer always wins. So, it is important to get adequate training or at least be part of a program that provides excellent marketing training that is duplicatable.

There are some online home businesses, such as medical transcription, data entry, word processing and virtual call centers that you can start with some very basic skills and a short bit of initial training. A home based Internet marketing business is not one of these. While it’s not essential that you have a four year degree in marketing to succeed you must have some experience in marketing.

If you’ve been a marketing specialist for another firm or acted in a management capacity that required you to practice some marketing job tasks, then you probably have a good feel for what marketing is all about. Now you just need some classes. For that you can go online if you prefer that to classroom learning. Let’s take a look at some of the courses that will train you for a home based Internet marketing business.

One 55 hour course, for example, is $99 at one online training facility we found. Courses include tips on advertising on the Web, building the client’s marketing strategy, developing your e-business, customer service, taking online payments, starting your home based Internet marketing business, e-commerce influences and strategies, writing and designing great applications, keeping business costs to a minimum for yourself as well as your client, managing and marketing your own e-business, the ins and outs of data mining and real time, as well as planning client resources.

The four hour course about Internet advertising is the kick off course for your home based Internet marketing business training. Here you’ll get a good overview of the various advertising options for your client when he or she markets on the Internet. The course objectives are to train you to promote your clients’ business on the Web, to plan the firm’s advertising campaign, to find your own customers, to compare the pros and cons of the various forms of advertising for your clients and to learn where Internet advertising is headed.

Building marketing strategy is one of the more essential courses for your home based Internet marketing business. In this online class you’ll learn a complex overview of the various marketing tools and options for your clients’ online business as well as your own. You’ll learn about outside promotion and data mining. Specific training includes identification of effective promotion in a face to face environment and a description of the relationship between e-commerce and public relations. In the five hour course you’ll also find out what niche marketing is all about and how it can help your client and your own home based Internet marketing business.

The E-business development course gets down to the basics. You’ll learn what a virtual corporation is, what business and marketing tasks you and your clients can and should outsource, understand partnership pros and cons, and look at the problems that can occur in an online business.

It is many people's dream to work from home with a successful home internet home-based business. Plan your marketing campaign right and you will see success with your home-based business.

Investing in Your Future with Medical Terminology

Ask anyone that has taken medical terminology and they’ll tell you it is like learning a second language. The method for constructing words is similar and some of the terminology can be confusing. The good news is that there is some logic to how medical terms are constructed and many of the terms will be familiar. If you know the meaning of arthritis or pneumonia, then you already know two medical terms. The use of everyday terms makes medical terminology much easier to learn than a second language.

What Medical Terminology Students Learn

Medical terminology courses teach the basic building blocks of medical terms: prefixes, suffixes and word roots. Regardless of the length or complexity of the term, once you can identify the parts of a term, you can decipher it.

In our classes we teach medical terminology using a unique combination of anatomy and physiology, word building principles, and phonetic "sounds like" pronunciations. Since each term describes a different part of the body, a disease process or condition, you need to understand basic anatomy and learn the terms used to describe the major body parts.

However, it's not practical to memorize every term. That is why courses teach you how to break down complex words into parts you know. This process saves time and will save you many trips to the medical dictionary. Once you master the word building principles you will be able to decipher any medical term.

Careers Using Medical Terminology

Medical terminology courses are required for many careers in the healthcare or pharmaceutical industries. Depending on your career path, you may need the course as a prerequisite for college admission or it may be a part of your curriculum.

Students who complete a medical terminology course find that it gives them a competitive advantage in the workplace. If you're considering pharmaceutical sales, medical billing, medical transcription, court reporting or healthcare-related customer service then a course in medical terminology is a great place to start.

Medical terminology can also open up new possibilities. Whether you are looking for a career change and want to improve your current job performance, learning medical terminology is a great place to start. New careers many students pursue include:

  • Medical technologist
  • Medical transcription
  • Medical billing and coding
  • Medical engineering
  • Surgical assistant
  • Court reporter
  • Medical sciences
  • Physician's assistant
  • Clinical research professional
  • Pharmaceutical sales
  • Healthcare related customer service
  • Selecting a Medical Terminology Course
Searching for the right medical terminology course can be a daunting task. The good news is you have options.

1. The type of course to take Choices include instructor-led courses, online courses or a mixture of the two which is considered a blended approach. Typically instructor-led courses are only offered to the public by community colleges or universities. Often location and times can be barriers for people who wish to enroll. Organizations teach courses for their employees but this option assumes you already have a job in a company that provides this kind of benefit. If neither of these options fit your lifestyle an online medical terminology course might be your best option.

2. Credentials of the organization offering the course

Typically these organizations are accredited and provide both instructor-led and online versions of the course. Accreditation is important because it demonstrates that the organization has taken the time to apply for accreditation and has typically been through a lengthy review process. Accredited organizations submit to frequent site visits from their accrediting bodies to review their educational design processes. These organizations are also required to keep records for a number of years. This is important in case you need a transcript or a duplicate certificate for proof of completion. Accreditation for these courses typically comes in two forms.

3. Form of accreditation

Students can earn professional CEUs for a course or they can earn college credit. Some companies offer both options but the fee for the college credit is typically over and above the normal course price. Courses are priced this way to keep costs down for students who only need professional CEUs and not college credit. Often the college credit is a straight pass through to the student and averages about $100-$150 per credit hour. College credit is also something to consider if you want to be reimbursed by your employer. Usually employers will only reimburse for courses that carry college credit. In these cases the additional cost is not a factor.

Learning medical terminology can be an extremely valuable experience. Mastering word building principles will make the process easier and help you to retain the knowledge for a long time to come. Keep in mind to use a reputable accredited company and pick a course delivery option that's right for you.

Healthcare Jobs in Medical Transcription

Do you have great attention to detail? Are you interested in medical jargon? Do you like to work with computers? Well, if you answered yes to these questions, a job in medical transcription could be for you. Training programs are relatively quick and put you in the work force quickly with a desirable career, as well as a great salary.

Training. Medical transcription training can be completed in as little as 6 months and up to 2 years. Programs can be taken at community colleges, vocational schools, and some medical facilities. There are some online and self-study formats that let you work from home at your own pace. Training programs consist of course work in medical terminology, laboratory terminology, pharmaceutical terminology, transcription formatting, and clerical duties. Training also educates students with important knowledge about legal issues surrounding patient care and health records. It is also important that transcriptionists have proper pronunciation and grammar, as well as practical hands on experience.

Certification. Upon completion of a training program, students are eligible to take a national certification examination. The exam is administered by the American Association for Medical Transcription, and successful completion offers the transcriptionist the title of Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT). Certification is highly recommended for employment, though currently not required in all states. Once certified, CMTs must fulfill continued education requirements in order to maintain certification.

Job Description. Medical transcriptionists can be employed in a number of healthcare settings including hospitals, physician’s offices, nursing homes, clinics, home health or public health agencies. Some transcriptionists work in private transcription businesses or as independent contractors. In a given day, medical transcriptionists may record medical records and correspondence for a number of patients. In many cases transcriptionists listen to information on a head set and type it into the computer.

Salary. Medical transcriptionists have respectable wages of an average $25,000 annually. However, salary increases for those with more experience and managerial positions. The demand for medical transcriptionists is also very stable, as the need for managing medical documents is essential to a properly run medical facility.

Entering the field of medical transcription is a quick process. Training programs are widely available and affordable. It is a great career in healthcare and offers many opportunities for advancement.

Is a Medical Career Right for You?

There are many careers available in the medical field. These careers are fast growing and wide spread, but how do you know if a medical career is right for you? There are many levels of training, so you can enter the field quickly in about a year or longer. Training can take anywhere up to 6 to 8 years. Here is a look at the different requirements of some of the most popular medical careers.

Requirements. All medical careers have different requirements and prerequisites for their respected training programs. Nursing is by far one of the most popular medical career choices at the moment. A nursing shortage has created a high demand for nurses of all types. Nursing schools have different requirements though a high school diploma or equivalent is a general requirement for all schools. Administrative or clerical jobs have differing requirements ranging from no formal education, to certification programs, to advanced education. Physicians and doctors must complete a Bachelor’s degree in a pre-medical track in order to begin advanced training.

Training. Training programs are quite different across professions. A nursing degree can be obtained in 2 years at the Associate’s level, 4 years at the Bachelor’s level, and longer for nursing specialists. Nursing programs focus on course work, as well as practical hands on experience, in preparation for national certification. Administrative positions can be obtained instantly for those with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, with little or no additional training requirements. Many administrative and clerical positions such as medical transcription and billing and coding require a short training course before certification. Training courses can be taken at community colleges or at hospitals. Training for doctors and physicians is considerably longer requiring advanced medical school training, followed by a hands-on hospital residency that can take an additional 3 to 6 years.

Time. Time is a huge consideration when choosing a medical career. It may be too late to begin physicians training in late adulthood; however, certification programs may be ideal to quickly enter the work force. Nursing is a great option for those with little time because there are many options for continued education in the future. Once a nursing degree is obtained, nurses can take additional certification courses while on the job or in addition to regular work hours.

Salary. Generally, the salaries of medical careers are quite rewarding. As with most careers, salary also increases with the amount of education obtained and required. While administrative workers are compensated well, doctors and physicians are compensated extremely well, although education and training requirements are far more rigorous.

If you are pursuing a career in the medical field, the best advice is to start early. It will set you up for many more options in career choice and training options. With the proper planning and hard work, you can get the medical career of your dreams.

Retrain Your Brain

It is happening to people all over the country; in large cities and small towns. Companies are downsizing or closing. You may be with the same firm for 20+ years in a senior position and still you are not immune to the chopping block.

During a brain-storming telephone conversation my friend casually mentioned what another friend did to make extra money. I thought, oh sure, another stuffing envelope business or something similar. That wasn’t the case at all – this person worked as a legal secretary by day – and medical transcriptionist by night using the internet to receive and send documents. The light bulb flashed on and I thought – I can do that. How hard can it be to type?

The search began for a reputable school offering a medical terminology and transcription course for a dead-broke, fifty-year-old, single-parent, with poor credit, living in Podunk. With all that stacked against me I searched through an amazing amount of information from community education classes to community colleges – and also distance education. Luckily, my diligent searching paid off and I found a reputable school with the perfect distance education classes I needed to start over and a student loan (co-signed in my case) made it affordable.

Retraining my brain wasn’t quite so simple. The learning side of my brain hadn’t had to comprehend much more than the company newsletter and flight plans for almost 30 years. Now that poor brain was gasping and panting in an attempt to pronounce, spell and understand the meaning of words like tonsilloadenoidectomy or electroencephalography. Man-oh-man, what a joy!

2,000 flash cards and several months of hard work later – I passed my final exam on the same day my daughter graduated from high school. There was celebrating in our household that night as we both faced the future with unknown possibilities and great promise. Medical transcription may not be for everyone and I never dreamed it would be the lifeline allowing me to make a living from home, but with the power of the internet it doesn’t matter if I live in Podunk or New York City.

When you find yourself in a sinking boat and approaching the falls it is time to open your mind and be willing to take a chance, creating a new future – a future in which you have more control of your destiny.

International Franchise Business Opportunity

What exactly is an international business opportunity? Definitions vary among different scholars, but boiled down to the bare essentials, a business opportunity exists when: 1) the buyer purchases goods or services that enable him or her to begin a business, 2) the purchase price is more than a certain amount, usually $500, and 3) the seller makes one of several defined representations about the opportunity, such as guaranteeing the program will be profitable; offering to provide assistance in locating accounts, vending machines or other display devices; promising to buy back products that have been assembled or produced by the buyer; or providing a sales program or marketing plan.

No matter the type, size, or location, franchises are one of the very popular international business opportunities. But figuring out which ones are hot and which ones are not can be a challenge. The major benefit of starting a franchised business is that the business model has already been proven. As a result, only 5% of franchises fail in a year compared to the 30% to 35% of non-franchise small businesses. This means that franchises are the most successful way to set up your own business.

Working from home is another most alluring international Business Opportunity of recent times. The power of the Internet lets you conduct international business because your website is available all over the world. The Internet has become the way people do business and has led to many people having their own very successful home business Many people dream about having their own home business in order to escape the hassle of commuting, friction with overbearing bosses and the stress of the corporate workplace. In the good old days, the ideal home business was some kind of mail-order business. However, in today's world an Internet based business offers the best way to gain flexibility and economic independence. One of the best international business opportunities from working from home is by Medical Transcription.

Medical transcription is the act of translating from oral to written form (on paper or electronically) the record of a person's medical history, diagnosis, prognosis, and outcome. Transcriptionists transfer medical voice recordings made by doctors and health professionals into documentation including: operating room reports, autopsy reports, and physical examination documentation. Currently, over 20% of people working in the profession are self-employed. The medical transcription business requires careful execution of health record confidentiality requirements. Any changes in the laws and regulations can affect business profitability. An additional risk is the occupational hazards of computer keyboard work resulting in eyestrain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and wrist or back problems

Fashionable clothing is also one of the most successful international business opportunities available in the business scenario. Smart clothing conjures up images of space age Jetson style apparel. Smarter apparel encompasses the customization of clothing to special markets ranging from performance apparel, sun protection, and aging-friendly clothing. The challenge of entering the smart clothing market is selecting a niche that is not too mainstream allowing bigger competitors to swallow market share before you get established. Conversely, a market too narrow can present problems with attaining break even points and profitability. Success in the smart clothing industry will require the ability to outmaneuver large retailers who influence the apparel business. Selling to select markets (i.e. skateboard shops) and outsourcing the manufacturing process overseas can help to maintain profit margins.

The language translation market has given new avenues in international business opportunities. It is a whole new concept that has been projected to reach $22.7 US billion by the end of 2005 in US alone, according to a report by Allied Business Intelligence. Translation services can cover various areas including: legal translation, commercial translation, technical translation, editing services, language interpretation, and website localization. Becoming a translator can be simple for someone who fluently speaks a foreign tongue. To succeed in this international business opportunity requires business skills of marketing and operations. Also, look to add a level of professionalism by gaining certification. Several potential risks exist in the market. Computerized translation services and voice recognition technology can fill some simple language translation needs. Translators who understand local cultural differences can provide critical insight that a computer cannot. Another risk can be a slow down in global trade. But with the power of the Internet and its high content production demands, the overall risks for translators remains low.
